When Disney Television Animation’s R&D organization approached Unity to develop three shorts featuring “Big Hero 6 The Series” fan-favorite character Baymax, using a real-time engine as the foundational production technology, the two assembled a team of talented artists and engineers scattered across the globe, and cast feature-film director Simon J. Smith (Penguins of MadagascarBee Movie) to lead the charge.

Disney approached Unity to create the shorts, and my team was responsible for the entire production – from hiring, day to day production support, creative reviews and final delivery. We were tasked by DIsney to build out a real-time pipeline from the ground up to support the creation of Cg animation with Unity, and delivered 3 awesome shorts as a result.

The production also resulted in Unity being awarded it’s first Technology and Engineering Emmy Award in 2018.

The production lasted roughly a year from initial discussions to final delivery, and I led the team of roughly 15 artists, engineers and animators throughout. In addition, the team produced a number of blog posts, Siggraph talks and Unite event presentations discussing the production.
